It cuts the middle out rather than just making an imprint.

Really great idea; hard to pull off without getting shortbread stuck everywhere in this cutter. But you know…even a wonky cookie eats well!

Loved the design which is why I bought it but sadly, it only works with specific types of dough and even then it loves to grab onto and keep clogging up. Must be used at a very shallow penetration depth in a very tight and cold dough. Not one I'll be using often but It's a keeper.
