Butter Tablet is a distinctive Scottish candy, unlike anything else. It's basically sugar, evaporated milk and butter, and a little vanilla. Sounds simple enough, but there's some kind of alchemy involved in getting the texture to its perfect crumbly concentrated densely sweet state. One is tempted to compare it to maple candy, or maybe caramel crossed with rock candy, but none of those descriptions do it justice. A little butter tablet goes a long way. It's an addictive treat! In Scotland people sometimes crumble a bit into ice cream.
