The Black bun is very delicious.
Completely delicious. Irresistible for anyone who can never get enough raisins and currents. It’s like those traditional american biscuits that are thin but stuffed with a layer of raisins. Only with much more! Very satisfying. Though I know that a week from now I will be craving more!

First time for me, I really like it. Its flavors are balanced, not a single flavor/ingredient overpowers the cake. I couldn't wait for a holiday so I had to order it and try it with a good friend, she enjoyed it too.

I grew up going to Scottish feis and eating raisin squares as dessert with a meat pie and bridie lunch. Also, picked up a raisin square treat on our visit to our Scottish butcher. Our butchers have retired and moved away from NJ and the only one left is two hours away on the NY border. I thought I would never have raisin squares again, but could still taste them in my memory. What a delight to receive this catalog and see “Black Bun”. I ordered right away and received it as a gift on Christmas Eve. Opened it for Christmas Day lunch and it transported me back to my childhood and wonderful family cultural excursions. Thank you so much, I will be ordering more from this catalog to be sure!!

This is my first order of black bun, but it won't be my last! Delicious without being overly sweet, and the fruit is so distinct in flavor, making it perfect for tea, dessert (with some vanilla ice cream) , or a simple snack. The pastry has a perfect crunch to it, which also cuts the sweetness. I will be reordering for sure!

A meal without dessert is merely chewing. And that goes for breakfast as well. After the shirred eggs and the thick cut bacon and the Brioche toast are gone and all you are left with is your dark roast coffee it is time to bring out the Black Bun. The perfect ending to a great meal. I realize people have different tastes but for me it is not too sweet but sweet enough to make a statement.

When I received this, I couldn't figure out how to slice it without squishing it! So I called Scottish Gourmet and was told to turn it on its side to slice. Worked perfectly! Of the products we ordered, we didn't love this one as much as we did the others, but it was good and definitely worth a try!

I bought this for my mother (87 yrs old from Glasgow) as part of her Christmas. She hasnt been home in years and was reminiscing about this cake. I didnt think Id like it (childhood trauma of nasty fruitcakes...ugh) but it was delicious. We were both thrilled!!!!
